Work of art, whose title is 6 euros an hour, a stamp designed to be printed on artists’ clothes for the exhibition Presupuesto: 6 euros. Prácticas artísticas y precariedad, idea of Cabello-Carceller. At Off Limits, Madrid, from April 22 to May 21, 2010.

First part: Manifest-: Protest Take one of the following two sentences:
‘Artista: aquel que cualificado para 120 euros por hora obtiene 6 o nada y ha de agradecer ser elegido.’
‘Artist: qualified for 120 an hour, earns 6 or nothing and must be thankful to be chosen.’
Go to Off Limits, calle de la Escuadra 11, Friday May 14 at 17:00, to apply the stencil to the clothes of your choice; from there we will go to the Prado Museum. We will have stencils and black and white spray cans available to paint these sentences on your clothes.
Second part: –action: A game of Blind Man’s Bluff: the artists form a circle, in one or more groups of five or ten, depending on the participants. Passersby will see the artists’ backs and read the placards, they may enter the circle or form part of it. In the center a person blindfolded, the others spin and move them around. Then they grab onto another person, who moves into the center in their place… The artist is part of a selection process.
One of Francisco Goya’s cartoons is Blind Man’s Bluff, 1789. Goya is an artist who died poor. Now, Goya and Velázquez are national treasures at the Prado. This is the first museum where tourists flock. Protesting there is a way of making visitors to these museums, which are filled with the work of dead artists, think about the reality of living artists. The museum works with dead artists; time is necessary for their work to become recognized for their cultural and artistic value. The point is for tourists and the general public to be exposed to the corruption and to the other side of the art world.
Demonstration slogans at Manifest-acción
First: Protest against minimum, or non-existent wages for artists’ work.
Second: Protest against dependency. In order to work, artists have to be chosen by the curator or cultural worker.
Artists are not contracted to work, they are chosen. The objective of many artists is to be ‘the chosen one’ and join the network; the objective of others is to change the humiliating nature in which art functions, which is unregulated and of no public benefit.
Landowners used to go to the village square to pick their seasonal workers; in the plazas of art the artists are picked by the curators. “They shoot horses, don’t they?” The artists compete to be “the chosen one”. After the fight, badly injured dogs don’t even have the strength to bite their masters.
As the song says [1]: “I don’t want to leave it to fate anymore. Hold tied” Get on board. Form alliance. Come to the protest: May 14 2010.
This evening, when tourists visiting the Prado read on the clothing of the protesters: ‘The artist: qualified for 120 an hour, earns 6 or nothing and must be thankful to be chosen’, they will realize that the ‘Prados’ of the future, as a result of the prolonged strike in the art world, will be empty.

19:00 en el museo del Prado, junto al Jardín Botánico.
19:30 en la plaza del MNCARS.
Primera parte. Manifest-: «poner de manifiesto»
«Artista: aquel que cualificado para 120 euros por hora obtiene 6 o nada y ha de agradecer ser elegido».

Pásate por Off Limits, calle de la Escuadra, 11, el viernes 14 de mayo a las 17:00 horas, para aplicar la plantilla sobre la ropa que elijas; de allí iremos al museo del Prado. Tendremos plantillas y sprays blancos y negros para pintar estas frases sobre tu ropa.
Segunda parte. -acción: «darle forma a una idea haciendo algo, género artístico» El juego de la gallinita ciega: los artistas en círculo, en grupos de cinco o diez, de uno o varios, según el público. Los transeúntes ven las espaldas y leen los carteles, pueden entrar en el círculo o formar parte de él. En el centro una persona, la gallinita ciega, con una venda en los ojos; los demás le dan vueltas y la mueven. Después se agarra a otra persona y va al centro, se cambia a la anterior… Proceso de selección del artista.
Consignas de la Manifest-acción
Primera: protestar por el pago mínimo o nulo a los artistas por su trabajo.
Segunda: contra la dependencia. Para trabajar, el artista ha de ser elegido por el comisario o trabajador cultural.
El artista para trabajar no es contratado sino elegido. El objetivo de muchos artistas es el de ser «elegido» y entrar en la red, el de otros es cambiar esta manera de funcionar del arte que resulta humillante, que no está regulada y que por último no aporta ningún beneficio público.
En las plazas de los pueblos, los terratenientes solían ir a elegir temporeros; en las plazas del arte los artistas son elegidos por los comisarios. ¡Danzad, danzad, malditos! Los artistas compiten por ser «elegidos». Tras la pelea, los perros malheridos no tienen energía para morder a sus amos. Cuando los turistas en el Prado, esta tarde, lean en la ropa de los que se manifiestan: «Artista: aquel que cualificado para 120 euros por hora obtiene 6 o nada y ha de agradecer ser elegido», sabrán que los «Prados» de los próximos siglos, resultado de la prolongada huelga de arte, estarán vacíos.
Como dice la canción: «Yo no quiero ya tener buena suerte, agárrate fuerte»…ven a la manifest-acción.
¿Por qué el Prado y el MNCARS?
Picasso en el MNCARS y Goya y Velázquez en el Prado son patrimonio nacional. Los turistas acuden a estos dos museos. Manifestarse en el museo del Prado es una forma de hacer pensar a los que vienen a visitar a los artistas muertos en la realidad de los artistas vivos. El museo trabaja con artistas muertos, el tiempo es necesario para consolidar su obra como valor cultural y artístico. Se trata de mostrar la otra cara del artista y las perversiones del arte a los turistas y al público en general.
